Echoes of Humanity: Contemporary Voices in Social Thought invites various scholarly views on the multifaceted experiences of present day human society. The volume covers a wide cross-section of topics such as culture and identity, Indigenous knowledge and systems, gender and social empowerment, governance practices, education, literature and writing, environmental ethics, technologies, and community life. Contributions show how the social thought has evolved and developed in the light of changing cultural, political, technological and environmental situations. The volume attempts to provide a broader and more cross-disciplinary, cross-geographical understanding of the human condition, by bringing together views from different disciplines and geographical settings.
One great virtue of this collection is that it is involved with both traditional and newer aspects of social life. The chapters discuss the Indigenous identities and customs, women's participation and the policies aimed at gender equality and welfare, community institutions and governance in Africa, literary and religious activities, as well as relations with the environment and the increasing significance of digital spaces. The these studies have shown that the social problems of today cannot be grasped within one dimensional perspective of a single discipline. Rather, they need discussion between cultures, traditions and academic disciplines, and between locally lived experiences. The many voices, memories, ideas and experiences of this volume thus converge in the title Echoes of Humanity.
The authors, reviews and academic colleagues who have contributed to this volume have been great, their time is appreciated and sincerely thanks to everyone on the editorial and publication team who has made it possible. They have embellished this joint work with their own research, enquiry and dissemination of knowledge. We hope that Echoes of Humanity: Contemporary Voices in Social Thought will provide a helpful resource to those who teach, study, or read books about current social issues, as well as to others in the policy arena and scholars of social change, and will stimulate more research, discussion and reflection on the evolving dimensions of human sociality.
